Summary
Welch Race Companion processes Gran Turismo 7 telemetry on your local network and device. Optional companion features may use a public Online ID you enter and a Welch Software proxy for unofficial lookups. We do not operate a Welch Software cloud account or PSN login for this app.
Data we handle
- On device / on LAN only: PS5 IP you enter or that Find PS5 discovers, live telemetry frames, locally saved setup sheets (Android DataStore / iOS UserDefaults / JSON), mute and unit preferences, and — if you use Profile — an optional public PSN Online ID / GT7 username stored on the device.
- Never asked: PSN password or PSN OAuth. Race telemetry is not uploaded to the cloud.
- Not collected by Welch Software as a race account: garage inventory, telemetry streams, or credentials.
- Optional product diagnostics (anonymous, opt-out): coarse events such as app open, screen names, catalog car/track ids, unlock funnel steps, voice callout ids, map outcome, connect success/fail (no IP), companion errors, and feature toggles. Events use a random install id (not Online ID) plus session id, app version, platform, and build channel (
dev/release) — never Online ID, PS5 IP, SSIDs, or race frames. Stored in Welch Software’s Cloudflare D1 database for this site. Turn off in About → Anonymous product diagnostics.
Network
UDP heartbeats and telemetry stay on your LAN. If you look up a driver profile or refresh Sport Mode week data, the app calls this site (/api/racer/:psn, /api/sport/week) with the public name you typed. Car, track, and maker catalogs are bundled and work offline.
When diagnostics are enabled, the app may POST /api/events with allowlisted event batches. Opt out anytime in About; the app then sends nothing.
Third parties
No advertising SDKs. Unlock is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Google Play (Android) or Apple (iPhone). Welch Software does not receive your card details. The app stores a local unlock flag and the date you first opened it (to run the 3-day trial).
GT-GridStats (unofficial): Profile lookup is proxied through our Cloudflare Worker. That service is third-party, may be unavailable, and is not affiliated with Polyphony Digital, Sony, or Welch Software. We fail soft when it is down. Bundled catalogs and Sport week archives are community-derived, not an official Polyphony Digital feed.
Future optional LLM features would be disclosed here before shipping.
